BSA Pack # 820

Religious Emblems

A Scout is Reverent

...all Scouts show this by being faithful in their duty to God.

To encourage members to grow stronger in their faith, those faith groups have developed specific religious emblems programs.  Such an emblem is not a Scouting award. It is conferred on a Scout by his religious leader.  Each faith has its own requirements for earning its emblem.  The BSA has approved of these programs and allows the emblems to be worn on the official uniform.“

Religious Emblem   The Religious Emblems Program is available to all members of Boy Scouts of America. Click to see the BSA's Duty To God Brochure

So how does your scout receive their religious emblem?

  • Workbooks are completed by the Cub or Webelos Scout over a few weeks or months with the advice, encouragement and help of his parent / close family member.
  • Religious Emblem Workbooks are available at the Scout Shop.
  • Upon completion of the workbook, there is a review and/or signoff by the Scout, Parent and Pastor or other church official.
  • The submittal of the completion/signoff sheet or cards from the workbook depends on the denomination.

Religious Emblem Examples:

  • Catholic - Light of Christ - For Tigers or Wolves
  • Catholic - Parvuli Dei - Bears or Webelos
  • Protestant - God & Me - Cub Scouts
  • Protestant - God & Family - Webelos

For Catholic Scouts, the Religious Coordinator will setup a group meeting with a priest for his sign-off on the scout's workbook.  The Scout's paperwork will be submitted to the Diocese for processing and we will also order the emblems.  For more information about Catholic Religious Emblems, see www.nccs-bsa.org.

On Scout Sunday at St. Ann Catholic Parish, Scouts will be personally recognized at the end of the Mass and each will be presented with their award.  All faiths are invited to this Mass and you may also choose to receive your award at your church.  If you would like for your scout to receive his emblem on Scout Sunday, all paper work will be due by December 5, 2013.  Scout Sunday will be on February 2, 2014.

We are excited to see the BSA take such a proactive stance in promoting this program and, as a Christian Pack, we have a great opportunity to take advantage of this program. Please contact the Religious Coordinator, Kenneth Buchman, with any questions.
